Sustainability was already a concern at Otto Zimmermann GmbH when the company relocated to Sinsheim in the early 1990s. The internationally renowned brand manufacturer relies on the advantages of production in Germany. In this way, the company also fulfills its own sustainability standards. When selecting its suppliers, the manufacturer pays attention to resource-saving solutions and the highest quality. In addition to fair and safe working conditions in production, one selection criterion for suppliers is proximity to the Sinsheim site in order to minimize transport routes.
Quality parts made from eco-friendly materials
Energy-efficient machines are a priority for Otto Zimmermann GmbH in the manufacturing processes at its own plant: "We consistently pay attention to keeping energy consumption as low as possible in production. Modern machines that work efficiently are standard for us," explains Production Manager Thomas Klose. Heat recovery to save fossil fuels and energy-saving lighting concepts have been implemented and are constantly being reviewed and optimized. The materials used must also meet high standards: In addition to the highest level of quality, Otto Zimmerman GmbH pays attention to environmentally friendly materials, for example in the coating of brake discs and brake drums. To reduce particulate matter during the braking process, the development department at Otto Zimmermann GmbH is working on meeting the requirements of the upcoming Euro 7 standard. Coating techniques are currently being examined that significantly increase the service life of brake discs by reducing abrasion. The friction mixtures for brake pads are also constantly being adapted in order to best meet environmental protection requirements.
The high-quality raw parts for the company's brake discs are made from 100% recyclable material. The fact that the spare parts are packaged in an environmentally friendly way using recyclable materials is also part of the brakeparts manufacturer's sustainability efforts.
Energy management and thinking outside the box
Since the introduction of the energy management system (EnMS) in 2015, Otto Zimmermann GmbH has been certified in accordance with DIN EN ISO 50001. The EnMS enables continuous monitoring of energy consumption and at the same time identifies potential for improvement. "It is important to us to really live the concept of sustainability and to continue to improve. The energy management system enables us to actively control energy-related company processes even better," explains Matthias Benz, Energy Manager at Otto Zimmermann GmbH. Otto Zimmermann GmbH is also involved in various projects to promote environmental protection and social commitment beyond the company's purpose. Among other things, a habitat for honey bees is provided on the company premises, which is looked after by a local beekeeper. The company also supports the TEILEn e.V. safety project, which aims to make routes to school safer for children. As a partner of various initiatives, Otto Zimmermann GmbH is committed to promoting a more sustainable community and more education, independently of its corporate goals.
